In ancient Egypt, cats were considered divine symbols. However, in some parts of medieval Europe, the belief that witches could take the form of black cats started cropping up. Soon people believed that if a black cat crossed your path, it was bad luck. Thankfully this was not the case in Scotland and Japan where black cats were signs of prosperity.
