Kids with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) have a very challenging life. They usually have short attention spans, difficulties with social communication and high levels of anxiety. However, studies have shown that therapy dogs can play a vital role in helping autistic children develop communication and social skills.
My friend's therapy dog motivated her son to interact and play with other children. The adorable "Ladybug" helped break the ice and soon her shy and awkward human companion Matt, was making lots of friends and scheduling play dates.
Therapy dogs promote positive feelings of care, love and empathy for kids with autism.
